#SubmissionSunday: Vocalight Is The Next Generation Of A Cappella
This week's #SubmissionSunday comes from a cappella superfan Rick Neetz, who said:

Okay, FloVoice needs to do a piece about Vocalight.

It's no surprise to anyone reading this that high school a cappella has ascended to new heights recently. Many high school groups are actually better than a lot of college groups, and there's a clear reason why. With some high school groups rehearsing every day, some as part of a matriculated class, they have the opportunity to dig deeper and work longer than a lot of college groups with their average of two rehearsals a week. No to mention, most college groups are student-run, whereas the best high school groups are directed by their teacher.

Students of these illustrious programs are graduating to great success quickly.

Groups like Vocalight are the next generation of a cappella.

They are a professional group formed from the graduates of two of the country's best: Centerville High School's Forte and Kettering Fairmont High School's Eleventh Hour. The Greater Dayton, Ohio, area is so fortunate to have such a strong concentration of talented a cappella musicians.

When asked how this experience is different from high school a cappella, drummer Justin Crichfield said:

We're significantly more autonomous and we're more individually responsible for everything (i.e., music, scheduling, group decisions, etc). There is no one forcing us to do anything so if we want to progress, it's all on us to make things happen. We are our own keepers. It really keeps the group motivated to keep pushing.

Fun fact: our good friend Charlie Arthur from last week's #SubmissionSunday used to be in Vocalight.
