#Tunesday: Musae Performs With Middle & High School Groups

This weekend, Musae headlined the sixth annual Wakefield High School A Cappella Night at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Wakefield, MA.

Here are some select performances from the night:

Musae's Wakefield Set

When asked how it went, Musae bass Johanna Vinson said: "It was a great show for us. Many of them had never seen contemporary a cappella live before, let alone with all girls. They loved it, and by the end we had kids dancing on stage with us. I freaking love middle and high school kids. They are so fearless.

When I was in middle school I'd have been so scared to just run on a stage and dance, but these days, kids just own their personalities. It's really fun to see.

Percussionist Mel Daneke said: "I was already excited going into this show knowing I'd be surrounded by fellow Ithaca College alums (Ithacappella -- Caleb Whelden and Adam Tarpey, Premium Blend -- Ana Morel). I always love when Caleb runs sound! He's cool, calm, collected, and very prepared. The first half of the show were high school and middle school groups from the surrounding area, all of which were nothing short of fantastic."

Tropic Thunder/Australia/Rain - "Africa"

Musae's Angela Longo said: "The future of a cappella is expanding programs downward into middle schools and nurturing their love for singing with contemporary styles. When I was in middle school (and even high school), I would have absolutely loved to learn songs that I actually recognized from the radio."

Daneke: "I say this a lot, but as I've seen high schools develop contemporary a cappella programs, either within their curriculum or as an after school activity a few days a week, their performances show hard work in rehearsals, budding and challenging musicianship, teamwork in movement, and best of all, friendship. That's what I saw on stage Saturday evening."

With Musae, our new tech set up, it's always cool knowing that we're showing the younger generations in the crowd that the possibilities in performing with five female voices are uncapped -- especially in the world of a cappella.
WitchPitch - "River"

Longo: "It's all about getting kids to fall in love with singing in school early on! Then mixing that connection to contemporary music with the techniques of classical singing, and you have an amazing way to keep kids interested while also educating them!"

Noteorious - "Sucker for Pain"

The Funk Yard Divas - "It's Raining Men"

King - "Somebody to Love"

Edj - "Crazy"
