When asked why he started this site, Ozment said, "I started the site because I wanted individuals and groups who were interested in recording themselves or already doing it to have basic knowledge about recording."
He feels that he and his colleagues in the recording world have already spent years making the common mistakes and learning from them. He hopes to share those mistakes and the lessons learned so that people can start out making better quality recordings than he did.
"It's been clear for a long time that the amount of recording that groups want to do outnumbers the amount of qualified, experienced, and seasoned professional engineers/producers in our community," Ozment said.
He began my music career as a drummer and has been involved in choral music and contemporary a cappella for more than 20 years. He sang with the Madison Project and founded Exit 245 (both BOCA and Voices Only regulars) at James Madison University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in voice and a master's degree in choral conducting, spending a bit of time as a percussion major.
Before opening Emerald City Productions, he worked for the Master Chorale of Washington at the Kennedy Center, the Cathedral Choral Society at the National Cathedral, and contracted and prepared choirs for the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap.
In 2011, he began working for the network television a cappella competition "The Sing Off" and has done production work for several incarnations of the show (United States, Holland, and France).
His engineering, editing, and mixing contributions can be found on more than 50 CARA-nominated songs, EPs, or albums and on 15 compilation albums.

A little bit of knowledge goes a long way towards making better recordings. On April 21, Ozment, a veteran a cappella producer, engineer, and owner of Emerald City Productions, launched his Recording A Cappella podcast with episodes featuring in-depth interviews of Deke Sharon, J. D. Frizzell, and Corey Slutsky.

I hope RecordingAcappella.com can help ease that strain in some small way and lead to a great big beautiful tomorrow for a cappella.Ozment has been working in the podcasting world for the last two years as an engineer and editor in his free time away from a cappella. Everybody has a podcast right? So he started his own in order to share some of the amazing stories behind the people in the a cappella world.
