'Pitch Battle' Coming To BBC One
BBC One is set to air a new a cappella competition reality show this summary called "Pitch Battle."
"Pitch Battle" is a new vocal TV show coming this summer to BBC One, and it's hoping to provide a new riff on singing competitions.
Deke Sharon flies to Manchester, England, today to join his coaching/arranging team, which includes Clare Wheeler Girard (The Swingles), Nicholas Girard (The House Jacks), James Rose (Accent), and Jack Blume (Gobsmacked).
Tuesday's Child CEO and "Pitch Battle" executive producer Karen Smith said: "To have someone of Deke's caliber advising on musical arrangements throughout the series is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for ambitious groups around the country!
"There are millions of people in the UK of all ages and backgrounds who sing simply for the love of it, for the joy and sense of community it creates. Tuesday's Child's excellent new format reflects this with shed loads of sass and spirit. We know they are out there -- so get in touch! We can't wait to get started!
Host Mel Giedroyc said: "I am soooo excited to be presenting this new show and PB will definitely be bringing some cracking music into people's living rooms every Saturday! Not only are we going to be joined by some brilliant groups and megastar judges each week but to top it all off my old mucker the original twisted choir starter Gareth Malone will be there too. What a combo!"

Here are some facts about the show:
- It's from the creators of "Dancing with the Stars."
- Both choirs and a cappella groups are eligible to compete.
- Each episode introduces six new groups before a live finale featuring the winner of each of the five episodes.
- Each episode starts with a big six-song mashup introducing each of the six new groups.
- There will be a live riff-off, in which groups sing back and forth "Pitch Perfect" style, never having seen the other group's half of the performance until the cameras are rolling.
- The show is hosted by Mel Giedroyc. "Pitch Battle" judges Gareth Malone and Kelis will be joined by a different third judge each week, which will rotate between celebrities such as Seal, Joe Jonas, and Chaka Khan.
The hope is that if this format does well it will spread to other countries.

After a divisive, depressing 2016, we're bringing some humour and harmony to 2017 in a contemporary new format with story, scale, and spelling-binding, hairs-on-the-back-of-your neck performances.
It's kind of nice when things come full circle. I started singing in the choir as a child so it's always been something special to me. Now here I am 20 years later as a judge on 'Pitch Battle.'-Kelis
