Connect To Compete In Harmony Sweeps National Finals
Connecticut's Connect is the New York Regional Harmony Sweepstakes Champions and is flying to San Rafael for Sweeps National Finals this week.
Connect from Connecticut is the New York Regional Harmony Sweepstakes champion. As a nine-member group, Connect had to rotate its members on and off stage during its regional victory in March, which only secured the travel costs of eight performers to nationals. Instead of leaving one member at home, they had to pay for one plane ticket because the rules state:
On top of winning first place at New York Regional Sweeps, the group was awarded Best Soloist (Kaylah Smith) and Best Choreography.
It also won SingStrong's Aca Idol in 2015 (DC) and 2016 (NY).
When asked how Connect was formed, Kaylah Smith said, "Connect formed out of students wanting to continue sharing their love of music after attending the Central Connecticut State University. Giselle and Mike started the group.
"Giselle was the director of TGFI (Too Good For Instruments) and Mike was the director of Divisi. All of us are from one of those groups, except Lucian (he was in The Right Frequency which doesn't exist anymore) but beatboxed for TGFI so he's an honoraryTGFI member."

Groups are limited to a maximum of eight singers. Larger groups may rotate singers during the set but only eight members are allowed on stage at any one time. If such a group wins, then only eight members will be flown to the finals.Connect intends on rotating on and off stage again at the National Finals on Saturday, May 20, at the Marin Center in San Rafael, CA.
