BBC 1's Pitch Battle debuted last night and here are some highlights from Episode 1!

To move forward in the competition, groups must pass the rigorous scrutiny of the judges - the nation's favorite choirmaster Gareth Malone, former choirgirl-turned-international recording artist Kelis, and this week's superstar guest judge, Brit Award winner and former choirboy Will Young.

In true vocal competition show fashion, we get a big splashy medley to introduce us to the competitors.

Opening Number

Groups then go head to head in a series of knockout choral challenges. First they each perform their showstopper before a themed riff-off, where the judges decide which group goes through to the solo battles later on.

Vocal Dimension Chorus vs. A Flame

Battles seem to be disregarding group size and style when choosing matchups, which is a brilliant breath of fresh air.

LMA Chorus vs The Uptone Girls

Liverpoolian pop choir LMA Choir faces off against the all-female collegiate group (University of Birmingham), The Uptone Girls.

Vocally Bespoke Vs Leeds Contemporary Singers

Soul group Leeds Contemporary Singers face off against contemporary choir, Vocally Bespoke.
