#MondayMornings: BYU Vocal Point's 25th Anniversary Spectacular
This #mondaymorning we bring you BYU Vocal Point's One-Shot Ultimate Mashup, 25 years in the making!
Good #MondayMorning!
When super gleeful powerhouse BYU Vocal Point turned 25, they staged a huge celebration and mashup. Scores of alumni came back for the big 25 song (one for each of Vocal Point's 25 years) mashup.
Sixty-eight current and former group members gathered in Provo, Utah -- flying in from as far as London -- to commemorate the occasion with a variety of concerts, socials, award presentations, and most notably, an epic music video shoot.
Oh, and it was all filmed in one shot!
"Musically, the project attempted to combine 25 different songs from the last 25 years of pop music by putting them together in a cohesive and concise four-minute mashup," BYU alum and arranger McKay Crockett told FloVoice. "Saying it like that doesn't sound very difficult, but I promise it was!
"Months of research, arranging, rearranging, and re-re-arranging produced what we think is a really fun representation of some of the most recognizable pop hits of the 25 years that Vocal Point has been alive."
Vocal Point have come a long way in their 25 years. This video alone accounts for over a million of their more than 38 million YouTube views. Along with three Pearl Awards, the groups won the ICCA Finals in 2006 and placed fifth on season three of "The Sing-Off."
"Creating the video concept was equally challenging, if not more so," Crockett said. "To take a crazy musical mashup and turn it into a one-take music video almost seemed impossible. How can you take all these songs and make sense of them visually? We called on our friends who had helped put together another of our larger scale video projects (Newsies Medley), and after hours of planning, brainstorming, and their brilliant vision, the story came together: the citizens of old time Provo would compete to win the leading role opposite Hollywood celebrity Ruby Rogers.

As cliche as it sounds, it was inspiring to see everyone pull together and stay focused on the goal, even as we were running out of time. The video shoot was among the most memorable I've ever had, and the final product is definitely one that we are all proud of.
Have a Fantastic Monday Morning!
