The 10 strongest ICCA Central groups are going head-to-head in the region's semifinals in Buffalo, New York, on March 24.
The 10 strongest ICCA Central groups are going head-to-head in the region's semifinals at the University of Buffalo Center for the Performing Arts in Buffalo, New York, on March 24.
SUNY Potsdam, the University of Waterloo, the University of Rochester, and the University of Pittsburgh will all be represented by two groups in a showdown for a finals spot at Beacon Theater in New York in April.
The Potsdam Pointercounts
SUNY Potsdam
Quarterfinal Score: 393
The Pointercounts will head into the Semifinals with the highest overall quarterfinal score in ICCA Central. This group has gone through quite a transformation since its origins as a barbershop and doo-wop group back in 1992. The Pointercounts are now 13 members strong, sing a variety of music, and are dedicated to education and giving back.
The Rusty Pipes
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Quarterfinal Score: 370
The Rusty Pipes have been entertaining audiences in Troy, NY, and beyond for just over 20 years. Highlighting a strong second-place quarterfinal finish, Cora Nelson was awarded Outstanding Arrangement for “Keep Your Head Up.” The group is returning to semifinals for the sixth time, last appearing in 2016.
Trebellious
University of Rochester
Quarterfinal Score: 359
In a top three at quarterfinals separated by only 13 points, Trebellious took home a well-earned first place that included Outstanding Arrangement for the entire set by member Rachel Hammelmah. This was especially impressive, considering it was the group's first appearance at ICCA. Fun fact: this group offers weekly a cappella workshops to its entire campus.
Eight Beat Measure
Rochester Institute of Technology
Quarterfinal Score: 352
Eight Beat Measure earned a second-place finish in the quarterfinals, including Outstanding Soloist from Jarell Green for “Threatened” and Outstanding Choreography by Chris Foley for the entire set. The group also releases its latest single in the fall, "Forgiven," as it celebrates 30 years together.
The Potsdam Pitches

Quarterfinal Score: 380
Brittany DeLuca’s strong performance earned Outstanding Soloist for the entire set in the quarterfinals. Her work with Kristen Grujek also earned the group Outstanding Choreography, helping the Potsdam Pitches return to the semifinals for the second year in a row.
Midnight Ramblers
University of Rochester
Quarterfinal Score: 302
Banking on the high energy and ambitious arrangements, the Midnight Ramblers earned a trip to Buffalo with a second-place finish in their quarterfinal. Keegan Stricker won Outstanding Vocal Percussion for the entire set. Get to know them a little better through their latest EP, "This Side Up," released in October 2017.

Quarterfinal Score: 300
In Full Colour captured a first-place finish in Varsity Vocals’ first event in Canada in over a decade. Misha Khorramshahi won Outstanding Soloist for her multiple performances throughout the set.
The Water Boys
University of Waterloo
Quarterfinal Score: 290
The Water Boys have competed in ICCA since 2011 and made the trip to the finals in 2017.Chemical engineering major Yamen Mouhanna won Outstanding Arrangement for “Withdraw” in this year's quarterfinals.
C Flat Run
University of Pittsburgh
Quarterfinal Score: 373
With a dynamic group of new members, C Flat Run gave an inspiring quarterfinals performance which led to a one-point victory over The Songburghs. Savannah Grant wowed the crowd and took home Outstanding Soloist for “Gimme All Your Love," Tommy Silvia earned Outstanding Arrangement for “Grow,” and the team of Becca Uhlean, Pragnya Iyengar, and Smiti Srinivasan won Outstanding Choreography for the entire set.
The Songburghs
University of Pittsburgh
Quarterfinal Score: 372
With a strong technical performance, The Songburghs improved on their third-place finish in 2017 and earned a trip to Buffalo with a second-place finish in the quarterfinals. Casey Abramson and Cameron Keller won Outstanding Choreography for the entire set.
