ICHSA Southwest Competition Heats Up In Semifinals
With only three quarterfinal rounds in the ICHSA Southwest, the top three groups from each quarterfinal have advanced to the region's semifinal on March 24.
With only three quarterfinal rounds in the ICHSA Southwest, the top three groups from each quarterfinal have advanced to the region's semifinal on March 24 at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas.
A mix of seasoned competitors — such as Walk The Line, Fusion, and Madison Avenue — and some new competitors should make this semifinal a fight to the finish for a spot at the Lincoln Center in New York City.
Vocal Effect
Montrose High School (Montrose, CO)
Quarterfinal Score: 394
All the early-morning rehearsals paid off for this group out of Western Colorado. Aside from winning first place, Outstanding Vocal Percussion went to Keli Drye for "Treat You Better." Given the travel and other expenses involved in getting them to Texas for the Semifinal, the group is looking for your help.
Treble Rebels
Ironwood Ridge High School (Tucson, AZ)
Quarterfinal Score: 299
With an exceptionally strong performance, the Treble Rebels not only went home with second place but also two special awards. Outstanding Arrangement went to Stephanie Randall for "My Heart With You." Randall worked with Elisabeth Kinghorn to earn Outstanding Choreography for their entire set.

Walden Grove High School (Sahuarita, AZ)
Quarterfinal Score: 271
The quarterfinals host group earned third place, a spot at semifinals, and Outstanding Soloist for Rae Crabtree’s performance of "Green Light."

Carroll Senior High School (Southlake, Texas)
Quarterfinal Score: 396
Part of the larger Dragon Choir, Encore brings 18 top voices to the competition stage. The group won its quarterfinal. Emma Cave was also awarded Outstanding Soloist for her take on Joni Mitchell’s "Both Sides Now."

Bryan High School (Bryan, Texas)
Quarterfinal Score: 373
Elite singers from the Bryan High School Choral Program, Vocal Legacy was not only the runner-up, but student Tyra Thompson also won Outstanding Arrangement for her "Destiny's Child Medley."
Walk the Line
Rockwall High School (Rockwall, Texas)
Quarterfinal Score: 367
Walk The Line was a 2017 ICHSA finalist and the group is ready for more! Actively working with local clinicians and participating in events like Sing! Texas has helped prepare this group for competition. In the quarterfinals, Walk The Line took home Outstanding Choreography and Josh Etley was awarded Outstanding Vocal Percussion for the entire set.
Fusion
Marcus High School (Flower Mound, Texas)
Quarterfinal Score: 411
This award-winning ensemble pulls its members from the Varsity Treble Choir and has placed in the top three every year it's competed in ICHSA. With a first-place finish in quarterfinals, Fusion is one step closer to NYC, where it was a finalist in 2015. The group's quarterfinals performance was bolstered by Komel Karumuru's Outstanding Soloist nod for "Breathe/Bang Your Head" and Outstanding Choreography by Allison Asplin, Peton Mowl, and Bella Ontiveroz for the entire set. Fusion released its first EP last spring, "Stand in the Light."
Pitch Black
Harker Heights High School (Harker Heights, Texas)
Quarterfinal Score: 337
Part of the outstanding a cappella program at Harker Heights, the group edged out Madison Avenue by one point to take second place at quarterfinals. Jake Rabena knocked his solo on "Love Shack" out of the park and took home Outstanding Soloist.

Madison High School (San Antonio, Texas)
Quarterfinal Score: 336
Last year’s quarterfinal champions earned a repeat trip to semifinals with a third-place finish and Outstanding Vocal Percussion for Aaron Diaz’s entire set.
