New Release Roundup: Legacies & Debuts
It's a good thing it's a holiday weekend - a cappella fans have a lot of new music to consume.
A cappella fans are fortunate it's a holiday weekend because we have a lot of new music to enjoy. From legacies to debuts, this week's releases bring thick chords, soulful leads, and a little bit of comedy.
Manhattan Transfer
After several weeks of track leaks, the full album is here. "The Junction," an homage to Manhattan Transfer's classic single “Tuxedo Junction,” is the first release from the jazz ensemble in 10 years. Infused with a variety of energies from dark to pop, the album also marks the first with new bass Trist Curless.
With more than 40 years of tradition, the voice and stature of Tim Hauser may have been lost in 2014, but his legacy lives on as the group continues to push in a familiar, yet innovative fashion. The album is available from all of your favorite retailers.

In six degrees of a cappella, the group founded by Trist Curless also released a new video this week. With their award-winning acrobatic sound, the LA-based pop-jazz group gave us a soulful take on The Beatles’ classic “Come Together.”

Currently out on tour for "TIMELESS," the country a cappella giants released a new video for their cover of “Yours” by Russell Dickerson, featuring newest member (and Street Corner Symphony alum) Adam Chance on lead.
HIVE
The force that is HIVE released an original by Lisa Forkish as its entry in the NPR Tiny Desk contest. Feed your excitement and anticipation of seeing the group at BOSS next weekend with a peek at the warm lead by Forkish and intricate harmonies on “Lay It All Down.”

As Passover arrives at sundown, Six13 treated fans to a four-part series: "Must See Passover TV." The group also released a puzzle, whose winner will receive a free concert, AND lyrics so you can sing along at your seder. Chag sameach!
The Y-Studs
"The Greatest Showman" makes another appearance, this time as a brilliant Passover parody.

Ginger and Tonic
This sassy Australian quartet serves up a cheeky love song dedicated to Chef Shannon Bennett, entitled “Shannon Bennett, Come and Get It.” The group will perform at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival from April 10-22.
ONAIR
Six award-winning voices from Germany burst onto the scene in 2013 and shortly thereafter started winning major competitions and headlining stages across Europe. Their first album was honored with a CARA for the song “Wolf & I.” The group is back with a new single, Estelle’s “American Boy.”
VOXID
More vocal pop from Germany, VOXID released a single from its upcoming album, “Shades of Light,” which is due out on April 28. This week, fans got a preview with “Music Ain’t My Thing.”
Kenton Chen
"The Sing-Off" and ICCA superstar alum has a new single now available everywhere. “Walls” is an emotional piece highlighting a delicate and beautiful range from Chen.
Business Casual
Last year's National Harmony Sweepstakes finalists treated the crowd to two original tunes as part of their set. Today you get to hear the studio release of Cassie Greene and Jacob Chamoun’s “Aint No Way.”
Vinyl Street
The Boston-area Contemporary A Cappella League group put out a new single, "Porcelain," featuring Jason Luciana on lead. Catch the group live on Saturday at Club Cafe A Cappella Night in Boston with Mass Whole Notes and Immutable.
The Lost Keys
This NYC-based group previously released "Unlocked," which was named one of the top albums of the year by RARB in 2015. The Lost Keys' latest album, "Latched," was released this week with covers of Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Kimbra, and more.
Dhunki
The South Asian a cappella group from UT Dallas dropped its debut album, “Spellbound,” this week, a nod to the English translation of its group name. The five-song EP is a collection of mashups from Eastern and Western music.
And, if that’s not quite enough a cappella for you this week, BOSS kicks off a week from today and The Real Group is now on tour in the U.S. from April 6-14.
