This Friday will be a clash of the titans in Sandusky, OH as the choruses of Harmony, Inc. take the stage.
Last year's winners, New England Voices in Harmony, have to sit this one out, but there is still a long list of powerhouse choruses vying for the 2019 title.
Previous champions, Northern Blend, Village Vocal Chords, and A Cappella Showcase will all perform what are expected to be stellar sets. Northern Blend last won in 2017, under the direction of Katie Taylor and Jordan Travis led A Cappella Showcase to the top in 2016. A Cappella Showcase previously won with director Judy Comeau in 2008 and 2012.
A Cappella Showcase heads into the contest with the highest overall qualifying score of 80.2%. Northern Blend qulaified with 79.2%.
The Village Vocal Chords are essentially a Harmony, Inc. dynasty with a record 20 international wins under Jeanne O'Connor since 1976. O'Connor has announced her retirement and Sandusky will be her final appearance as director. They enter the contest ranked 5th, with a qualifying score of 76.4%.
Sounds of the Seacoast, Atlanta Harmony Celebration, the ScotianAires, the Liberty Belles, Bella Nova round out the top ten qualifiers headed into Friday's final.
In addition to all of the qualifiers, the winner of Thursday night's Silver Division will also earn a spot in the main chorus contest.
However, in true Harmony style, excellent performances are likely from all 25 qualifiers and will justly rewarded by an enthusiastic audience and top-notch judges.
