Collab Forms Out Of Peter Hollens Contest Entrires
David Fowler and Scott & Ryceejo's collab came from entering Peter Hollens' "December Song" contest.
Back in November, a cappella duo Scott & Ryceejo joined David Fowler as a top 10 finisher in the Peter Hollens "December Song" Contest.
Shortly after entering the contest, Scott Shattuck sent Fowler a friendly email saying hello and mentioning that they ought to collaborate sometime soon.
"I leapt at the opportunity, because I recognized Scott as one of my favorite soloists ever to go through BYU Vocal Point, and his mixing skills were incredible!" Fowler said.
After a few months of stasis while waiting for their schedules to clear and for the right idea to give them inspiration, they settled on doing a Train medley, which they debuted on YouTube over the weekend.
Fun fact: this video is actually filmed on their iPhones.
Due to a fluke in planning on the side of both parties and a looming deadline, they opted to use phones since the videos would look identical, rather than scramble to find identical lenses for different DSLR cameras.
With the green-screen effects, color correction, and lighting filters, you can barely even tell!
Of course, 90 percent of good video is good lighting, so they were able to work around that limitation and still make something that looks good.
"Scott and Ryceejo offered to do the arrangement and the editing/mixing, and I agreed to do the vocal percussion and edit the video," Fowler said.
The audio for this project will be available in a few months when Scott & Ryceejo put up an album of several covers. In the meantime, the audio is available on Fowler's Patreon page for my $1/mo patrons!

The result is a combination of all of our strengths and is something the three of us are extremely proud of.
