Get ready to explore the history and art of beatboxing and its storied place in hip-hop history.

The World Beatbox Association in collaboration with Urban Movie Channel (UMC) is celebrating the online release of the award-winning film "American Beatboxer" by hosting the American Beatbox Battle, an online beatbox competition that is open until July 6.

Contestants can enter the American Beatbox Battle by sharing their best beatbox cover song for a chance to win an Apple TV and a free annual subscription to UMC. Videos must be 1-3 minutes in length and can be voted on through the competition's official site. The top 10 cover songs with the most votes advance to the final round.

The documentary, which is produced by and stars World Beatbox Association founder Chesney Snow (Broadway's "In Transit"), highlights the culture of the international beatbox community and the first American Beatbox Championships, which was held on July 31, 2010, in Brooklyn, New York. With a selection of over 20 national and international film festivals and placement in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum and Archives, it is one of the seminal films documenting the artform.

Urban Movie Channel All Access host Shannon Lanier sat down with Snow and fellow producer Rich McKeown to discuss "American Beatboxer" and the online competition.

When asked what was next, Snow said, "The follow-up 'American Beatboxer: The Docu-Series' is an official selection of the Hip Hop Film Festival, which was awarded best new film festival given by Quentin Tarantino. That fest is this August in NYC!"
